Bless the Lord!

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:1-5

Worship declares the incredible worth of God. It proceeds from the delight one feels in God.Worship as a discipline requires tending the soul by reminding ourselves of who God is and what He has done. We are forgetful.

God gives us many benefits.
He forgives our iniquity.
God heals our diseases.
God redeems our lives from the pit.
God crowns us with steadfast love and mercy.
God satisfies us with good, renewing our strength.

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

The Great Struggle

1For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.   Colossians 2:1-3

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus.

Let this truth become truth for you.

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus.

Dear follower of Jesus, its going to be a struggle to fully comprehend and enjoy the wealth of God’s riches you posses through Him. This world and our old nature conspire to diminish Jesus and draw us away from Him… to anything else… but Him.

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus.

Christian leaders, disciple-makers, like the Apostle Paul, struggle, strive, contend for the people of Jesus to see Jesus, cherish Jesus, value Jesus, admire Jesus, delight in Jesus, and worship Jesus.

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus.

Your quiet times are meant to be a daily appraisal of the incredible and immense worth of Jesus. Its a time for digging and uncovering the beauty of Jesus in the Word of God. It is a time for asking the Spirit of God to blow back the fog of lies clouding your mind from comprehending and celebrating Jesus.

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus.

Jesus is your greatest treasure.

Wisdom starts with worship.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Psalm 111:10

The fear of the Lord can be characterized as a deep abiding reverential awe for God. In Psalm 111 the psalmists calls a people probably wracked with the despair of their Babylonian exile to value following God and His ways even in a foreign land.

We can be that way. We start to wonder, “is it worth it to follow Jesus when faith in Him and practice of His ways runs counter to the prevailing view?”

In Psalm 111 the Psalmists reminds the readers and singers of God’s works and God’s mercy towards Israel. Both His works and His mercy generates awe.

Wisdom starts with worship.

Wisdom is needed in our day. It will not be generated by degrees. Wisdom is generated first by knowing God and taking stock of who He is and what He has to say to us.

So Praise Him!

Worship is response.

When the conscience has been awakened

to the stark contrast between who God is

and who I am

despair and avoidance are options.

Seeking to appease God is an option too.

So we may be tempted to strike up a deal

and try to make things “even with God.”

Thus we have religion.  Thus we have denial.

Who thought we could really achieve our way?

When our vision of God is informed

by God’s grace through Jesus

we have praise.

6So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. 7He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.   Ephesians 1:6-7 NLT

Praise is a joyful response

to God,

for who He is,

for what He has done.

So praise Him!
